TEACHING LANGUAGE

At IHTC the teaching language is English, but you will also learn basic German to help you on placement.

The college requires students to have an adequate level of English to follow the course, and you will be tested on your level of English before commencing the course.

As an indication we have reproduced below short extracts from textbooks used for two of the courses. Remember you will require this level of English understanding throughout the day, although we accept a student's spoken English need not be to this level.

Management Level - Text taken from Principles of Management Course Text Book, 'Fundamentals of Management' (2000) Stephen P. Robbins Prentice Hall Page 108:

' One of the first steps in starting a business is to prepare a business plan. Not only does the business plan aid you in thinking about what you're going to do and how you're going to do it, it provides a sound basis from which you can obtain funding and resources for your organization. In fact, a well-prepared business plan can be submitted to a financial institution in its entirety as the basis of why you should get a loan to start your business.'

MBA Level -Text taken from the Human Resources Management Course Text Book, 'Human Resource Management' ed.3 (1999) William P. Anthony, Pamela L. Perrewe & K. Michele Kacmar Dryden Press Page 45:

' Two gross generic categories of strategy seem to have had the greatest impact on human resource management in recent years. Following a review of the literature, Cynthia Fisher classified strategies into two categories:
1. Growth-prospector-high-tech entrepreneurial strategies.
2. Mature-defender-cost-efficiency strategies.
Firms in the growth mode require creative, innovative, and risk-taking behavior from employees. Mature-defender firms need just the opposite kind of behavior -repetitive, predictable, and carefully specified.'
